Dual Career Support for Student-Athletes

The OCDC – Junior Athletes online course is designed to help young athletes successfully combine elite sport and education by developing a strong and sustainable dual career pathway. It raises awareness of the importance of balancing academic and sporting commitments while providing practical advice on managing training schedules, academic responsibilities, and personal well-being.

Course description

The OCDC online course for junior athletes offers a comprehensive and practical learning experience tailored to the needs of student-athletes aiming to pursue both academic success and elite sporting performance. The course provides in-depth guidance on how to effectively manage the dual demands of education and sport, equipping learners with essential skills that are critical for both their current development and their long-term future. Participants will explore a wide range of key topics, including:
  • Advanced time management techniques to balance training, competitions, and academic commitments
  • Strategies to cope with the mental and physical pressures associated with elite sport and education
  • Guidance on building a strong personal brand and identity as a young athlete
  • Accessing and utilising dual career support networks, including coaches, educators, and institutions
  • Developing career planning skills and preparing for life after sport
  • Enhancing transferable skills, such as communication, resilience, and adaptability, which are highly valued in the labour market
The course also encourages learners to take a proactive approach to their development by setting personal goals, reflecting on their progress, and exploring opportunities beyond sport. By the end of the programme, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to successfully manage a dual career in sport and education, while preparing for a smooth transition into future professional pathways.
