About Me

Veronika Jakl is an accomplished occupational psychologist and an expert in athlete welfare and mental health within the international sports community. Since 2025, she has served as the Mental Health Officer for the International Judo Federation (IJF) Medical Commission, where she oversees global standards for athlete well-being. The 4th Dan judoka also holds the position of Safeguarding Referent for the European Judo Union (EJU), coordinating the safeguarding subgroup in the Human Rights Commission. Her professional focus lies in creating psychologically safe organizational cultures and implementing effective prevention strategies.

Developed within the European project SAFE COMBAT, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Sport programme, this course provides sport professionals, club officials and technical staff with the knowledge and practical tools to strengthen safeguarding in combat sports and martial arts, enabling them to recognise risks, prevent interpersonal violence and contribute to safe, respectful and participant-centred sport environments.
