About Me

Ilija Salerno is a highly respected kickboxing coach, former World amateur and professional kickboxing champion, and was regarded as one of the top elite fighters of his era between 1999 and 2010. He is currently the head coach of three well-established kickboxing academies, where he has developed a strong reputation for producing high-level athletes while fostering a positive and disciplined training environment. In addition, Ilija has recently been appointed Sports Director for WAKO Europe, where he plays a key role in shaping the competition structure across the European circuit, while also contributing to the strategic development and continued growth of the sport.

Developed within the European project SAFE COMBAT, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Sport programme, this course provides sport professionals, club officials and technical staff with the knowledge and practical tools to strengthen safeguarding in combat sports and martial arts, enabling them to recognise risks, prevent interpersonal violence and contribute to safe, respectful and participant-centred sport environments.
