The course explores both <strong>voluntary and involuntary retirement scenarios<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Key areas covered in the course include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding the <strong>psychological impact of athletic retirement<\/strong>, including identity loss, grief, and emotional adjustment<\/li>\n<li>Identification and management of <strong>mental health risks in athletes<\/strong>, such as anxiety, depression, burnout, and sleep disorders<\/li>\n<li>Development of <strong>personalised transition support plans<\/strong>, including education, career pathways, and life skills<\/li>\n<li>Application of <strong>motivational interviewing, active listening, and empathic communication techniques<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Strategies to promote <strong>balanced identity, wellbeing, and resilience<\/strong> beyond sport<\/li>\n<li>Building and coordinating <strong>multidisciplinary support networks<\/strong>, including psychologists, coaches, and career advisors<\/li>\n<li>Use of digital tools, including the <strong>PORTAL platform<\/strong>, for monitoring progress and delivering structured support<\/li>\n<li>Ethical considerations, including <strong>confidentiality, safeguarding, and inclusive practice<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The course also provides practical tools and methodologies, such as <strong>wellness assessments, life planning exercises, routine building, and support network mapping<\/strong>, enabling Transition Officers to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the programme, participants will be fully prepared to act as <strong>Transition Officers Post-Athletic Career (TOPs)<\/strong>, capable of delivering personalised, ethical, and effective support that enhances athletes\u2019 wellbeing and facilitates a successful transition into education, employment, and broader life opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Funded by the European Union.
